Last night Matt had his Christmas Choir Concert. It was a great performance and Matt had a couple of solos during the first half of the Concert where they performed the Magnificat by Johann Sebastian Bach. Above is a recording of his solo entitled, "Deposuit potentes" the basic translation is, "He has put down the mighty from their seats [of power] and raised up those who are lowly." He does a fabulous job right? There were some other great soloists and the brass section was amazing! After intermission there were a couple other Christmas carols they sang. My favorite of them was O Come All Ye Faithful. it was a much softer version written by T. Trenney. Matt told me that he came and directed them for that song in a different concert last week that i was unable to attend. Trenney said that many of the versions of that song are very loud and glorious! He says that in reality if the angels were singing that around the manger scene it would have been more of a lullaby of sorts. I wish i would have made a recording of this one, maybe i'll find one somewhere. It really is my new favorite arrangement of that song. he puts a lot of emphasis on the come and coming to adore him, which i love. That forever invitation to come stands for each of us today!
This Concert was well attended! There were more people standing or siting on the floor than there was sitting in chairs, but the music was still amazing! They did the performance in the Sheldon Museum of Art again. I have previously blogged about this particular Museum, but just as a reminder it was designed after the great halls in castles in Europe, thus the acoustics are some of the best i have ever experienced! Way to go Chamber Singers!
