4th of July in Seward NE
July 4, 2013
Matt and i were really missing being home with family over the 4th of July holiday. We decided though to combine some of our traditions from home with what is available to us here in Nebraska. As you can see above in the pictures, we started the day off making Beignets for breakfast. That is one of the traditions my family does. They turned out great! Latter that day we drove to a smaller town (population 6000) called Seward. Its about 30 minutes NW of Lincoln. We met several friends from the singles ward there and watched the fun parade (here throwing candy is allowed)! We also checked out the vendors and booths full of fun crafty things. That made me feel a bit more at home too. We then drove a couple miles to the ball park where they would be shooting the fireworks off latter that evening.
We set up blankets and ate Sam and Louis Pizza (pretty good) then spent the rest of the time playing card games and Frisbee! There was a live band performing for the hours leading up to the firework show. The band was called Big Tuna or something to that effect, kind of a weird name, but really fun band! They played and played originals as well as remixes. Then at 10 pm the 30 minute show began! They had music playing through it too! Star Wars, Wizard of Oz, and many other songs that really added to the fireworks!
It was such a great day! The only things that would have made it better was if people wouldn't have been smoking in the park during the firework show and the fact that it took over an hour to get out of Seward because of all the traffic. Overall though it was totally worth it! What a fun day it was! We now have some fun traditions of our own for while we are out here in NE.
