Let Us Resolve to... BECOME

January 8, 2013

I can't believe it is already the second week of the new year. Time really seams to be going faster and faster as I get older and older. The long drive back to Lincoln Nebraska wasn't too bad. We made pretty good time and stayed the night in a very nice Hotel in Denver Colorado. It was my first time driving through the Rocky Mountain. WOW! I see why the pioneers went through Wyoming instead, they wouldn't have made it. Even in a car it was difficult and took a total of three hours to pass through. I am so grateful for modern day things that make a journey through a mountain pass not only possible to do in a few hours but also makes the journey comfortable and warm despite the freezing temperatures out side. We are truly blessed.

Well, January for me always reminds me of something Anne of Green Gables says, "Every day is new, with no mistakes in it." Her quote is applied to everyday, yet it rings ever more true to me during the new year resolution time of the season when January arrives.

I have been thinking really hard about the things i would like to resolve to do and goals i would like to accomplish this year. Some of them are the usual things like: losing weight, eating healthy, and beginning an exercise routine, paying off school debt, getting into Graduate school, etc. Then i realized that several of the other resolutions and goals i want to accomplish have one thing in common. To sum it all up I am resolving to BE a better person, Be a better daughter of Heavenly Father, BE better at following the "little repetitive primary answer" commandments, etc. Its more about becoming someone better than you are, not just checking things off a list. To me this has been the number one thing impressed upon my mind by the spirit as i have been praying about which resolutions and goals to really focus on this year.

I have decided that by doing the following things i will BECOME more like the person Heavenly Father wants me to be:

Attend the Temple each month
Family and personal scriptures and prayer (even on Saturdays)
Live within our means
Maintain weight
Find some way to include more physical activity 4 days a week (side note on this one, the Ensign for this month has an article about the importance of physical activity, for women especially)

These are the general resolutions and goals i have for the year 2013. Each of them have more specific goals surrounding each one that will help me accomplish them, and i look forward to the challenge to grow and BECOME the person i know my Heavenly Father want's me to be.

"Let us resolve to follow the Savior and work with diligence to become the person we were designed to become. Let us listen to and obey the promptings of the Holy Spirit. As we do so, Heavenly Father will reveal to us things we never knew about ourselves. He will illuminate the path ahead and open our eyes to see our unknown and perhaps unimagined talents." Dieter F. Uchtdorf

I encourage all my readers to do the same and find time to not just do but BECOME! I also encourage you to read this whole talk given at conference in October last year. Happy reading and resolution making!
