The Glow Run 5K

May 26, 2013

Last night Matt and I ran his first official 5K race! It was so much fun! The race was called the Glow Run 5K, and from the pictures above you can see why. The course was 3.2 miles and it wound around the baseball field in the Hay Market in Down Town Lincoln, and up around one of the little lakes a ways off from the Baseball field. Along the rout there were stations that had black lights and loud music playing to keep the run interesting and fun! We thought we were doing pretty good by having matching team name bandannas and our glow sticks.. but there were so many people who went all out! knee high florescent socks, tool tutus, funky face painting, suspenders, you name it it was had there! I couldn't even give a guess of how many people were there, all i can say is that it was the most crowded race i had ever been part of! So much energy and so much fun!

Our team name was L.E.D. we came up with two acronyms and couldn't decide which one to use... they both were:

Life. Energy. Determination. and Lets. Eat. Donuts.

You choose which is the best and let me know! Maybe we will have the same team name next year! The other two people on our team are Ether and Rebecca Saure. They have been our cool just married couple friends here in Lincoln. They live a short 5 min walk from our place and we love to hang out with them. They were great company for this fun event!

I gotta say i am so proud of Matt for running this race! He told me afterward that he was really surprised at how much he enjoyed preparing and running in an official race. He never though he would get that much joy and satisfaction from physical activity... especially running! I was so proud of him to see him speed up during the last stretch of the race. I'm positive he beat my time by at least 1 minute! He had to come back to the finish line to find me and he had already gotten a water bottle and a medal! (Everyone got an awesome heavy medal at the end). Matt told me he would love to keep training for and running another race this summer. So excited to keep up the exercise and have a partner to help motivate me! Another great accomplishment this was for Matt was that this was the longest distance he has ever run with out stopping! it is only 3.2 miles but i tell ya, after only a short 3 weeks to train thats pretty good for someone who has never run a day in their life! We also got him his first pair of running shoes last week. So proud! So fun!

After the race was over we walked to a whole in the wall ice cream shop called Ivanna Cone. They make home made ice cream in several different flavors. Each day is different. I got Cinnamon, Matt got Dutch Chocolate, and Rebecca and Ether shared a triple cone of Creamy Vanilla, Fresh Strawberry, and Cinnamon. All in home made waffle cones. Delicious!

We hope to make this particular race a yearly tradition! So fun and so worth another round! Here's to fun 5K races past and here's to fun 5K races in the future!

Cheers!
